Field Service Technician

Responsibilities:   

  • Complete preventative maintenance and other required services on light and heavy-duty specialized destruction/industrial equipment
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment
  • Complete installations and integrations of customized destruction solutions
  • Assemble and erect ductwork and other ancillary items to support above installations
  • Assemble and recondition machines/equipment
  • Review and perform electrical troubleshooting
  • Communicate verbally and written to external customers as well as all internal levels
  • Complete service reports and basic computer reports
  • Complete internal FAT’s
  • Other duties as assigned
  • 75% Travel both domestic and international – Local service work in DC, VA and MD

Qualifications:

  • Strong mechanical skills background
  • Electrical experience a plus
  • Service/manufacturing experience, minimum of 1 year preferred
  • Ability to problem solve at a technical level
  • Read mechanical and electrical drawings is a plus
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and team player
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task with attention to detail
  • Current driver license and safe driver record
  • Must be able to pass a rigorous background check
  • Proficient computer skills and strong basic math skills
  • Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a Security Clearance and Passport.

Senior Service Technician

SEM is looking for an enthusiastic Senior Service Technician to join our service team in our Westborough, MA office. The Senior Service Technician is a key member of the service team and must be a confident communicator with a friendly attitude, ensuring each customer enjoys an outstanding experience at every interaction. An ideal candidate will problem solve naturally, enjoy traveling to customer sites, and love having unique challenges to solve for our customers every day. The Senior Service Technician will report to the Service Manager and work with a team of service technicians who travel both domestically and internationally, with the opportunity to lead projects and other junior technicians in-house.

Responsibilities:   

  • Service and maintain light and heavy-duty specialized destruction/industrial equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment.
  • Complete installations and integrations of customized destruction solutions.

  • Review and perform electrical interconnecting and wiring.
  • Read mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Communicate verbally and written to customers, both internal and external.
  • Complete service reports and basic computer reports.
  • Complete internal FATs.
  • Deliver solutions for a wide array of problems.
  • Lead in-house and on-site projects.
  • Lead and oversee in-house technicians.
  • Conduct product or process training to peers and/or customers.
  • Involved in leading continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Act as a POC for key customers.
  • Drive corrective actions within the service department.
  • 50% travel, both domestic and international, with flexibility

Qualifications:

  • Electromechanical background with proficient mechanical skills.
  • Electrical experience. Being a licensed electrician is a plus.
  • Service/manufacturing experience, minimum of 5 years preferred.
  • Ability to problem solve at a technical level.
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task with diligence.
  • Current driver’s license and safe driver record.

R&D Controls Engineer

Job-type: Full-time

SEM is seeking a Controls Engineer with a mechanical engineering background to join our R&D department. The successful candidate will have extensive experience with PLC-based control systems, sensors, and electric motors. This multifaceted role involves taking primary responsibility for integrating the complete electrical and controls design of new products. While some coordination with external resources may be required, the position demands the knowledge and capability to integrate electrical components and analyze entire systems independently. The role also requires proficiency in PLC programming, data acquisition systems, and the ability to design and conduct product development testing. Additionally, strong mechanical design capabilities are essential for developing new products and modifying existing ones.

Job Duties: 

  • Experience with both single and 3-phase AC powered systems and both AC and DC powered components
  • Extensive knowledge of PLC-based control systems and integration of HMIs, sensors, motors, relays, and other components
  • Ability to read, analyze, and modify PLC ladder logic programs. Strong preference will be given for proficiency in creating comprehensive programs for all logic and communications in final products
  • Knowledge of microcontroller-based systems with embedded firmware preferred
  • Strong knowledge and experience with data acquisition systems and ability to design testing schemes and conduct testing for product development purposes
  • Strong knowledge of electrical control panels and ability to read and modify schematics at both system and PCB levels
  • Strong knowledge and experience in mechanical design, materials, and analysis
  • Ability to create and modify mechanical drawings
  • Knowledge of machining and sheet metal fabrication processes strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong writing and communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling; SolidWorks strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with computer software: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree
